HOW'S YOUR FITNESS?

Our day tramps are 4 to 6 hours in length and we usually cover from 12 to 18 kilometres (sometimes longer). Often the terrain is rather rugged and includes steep climbs, long descents and stream or river crossings with difficult under foot conditions, so a high level of fitness and stamina are required to complete the course.

TRY OUR FITNESS TEST:

If you are unsure of your fitness level, take our “fitness test.” Wear good tramping boots and carry a full day pack. Tramp twice around the base track of Mount Maunganui (complete circuits) and then climb to the top of the Mount and back down again (Go up the four wheel drive track on the Tauranga side and descend via the track on the Twin Towers side of the Mount). If you can complete this tramp in 2 -2.5 hours, without too much discomfort, you are ready to begin tramping with the Group. The Leader will recommend suitable tramps for your level.

Programmes are available from the group leader every Wednesday.

The programme provides detailed information for all scheduled tramps over a period of several weeks. It also lists any social events that occur in that time frame so members know well in advance what dates to circle on their calendars.

The programme includes a lot of practical information for beginning trampers and offers an excellent reference for seasoned trampers.
